Back-to-School Bash 2017

"Be somebody who makes everybody feel like a somebody!"

This quote, spoken by none other than the ever-inspiring Kid President, was the one chosen to be placed on the back of the 2017-2018 Student Council t-shirts. The Student Council chose to unveil these shirts at their Back-to-School Bash.

On August 11, Lincoln High started the school year out with Freshmen Orientation for all the upcoming freshmen and new LHS students. The event, like always, was hosted by the Student Council Executive Committee.

The president of the Student Council, Jaye Carvelli, started off with the welcome speech, followed by other Student Body officers, Cory Fazalare, Izzik Haymond, Lauren Brooks, and Jonathan Looman. Jaye spoke greatly about how our school is a home, and welcomed the freshmen "home". The others spoke of getting involved, making the most of the four years, and welcomed the students. After the principals spoke briefly about the upcoming school year, the incoming freshmen were taken on a tour of the school in small groups by Student Council members.

Following the open house, all LHS students were invited to the Back-to-School Bash which was held from 8 pm to 10 pm in front of the school. The students jammed out to music by DJ Mr. Crosby. Other activities included were a water balloon toss, ping-pong tournaments, watermelon eating contests, a frozen t-shirt contest, and even games of cornhole. It was chaperoned by multiple teachers, while the concession stand was run by parents. Mr. Spadafore, one of the teachers in attendance, said, "It was great to see everyone back and having a great time. Assistant Principal Holly Hawkins was also there and told our newspaper staff that "It was well-attended and it appeared that everybody had a great time."

Hopefully, the success of these events that kicked off the school year are just the beginning of what great things the school year has in store.
