Lincoln High Beat Braxton County in Opener Game!

It was an exciting way to start the season as the Cougars clinched their first win of the season, which also happened to be their very first game.

The Cougars held eight sacks and held the Eagles to minus - ten yards rushing. Lincoln had a 35-14 victory over Braxton, which was a great victory compared to last year when Lincoln lost.

Kobie Carpenter had four touchdown passes and threw for 318 yards. Wide reciever Jonathan Leep, caught touchdown passes of 40 and 62 yards from Carpenter, as he was coming off a 5,000-yard season as a junior. Kobie also fired 67 and 19 yards to tight end Cory Fazalare, which all pleased Lincoln's coach Rob Hawkins.

The Cougars' defense, lead by 325-pound Bubba Ellis, six foot five 272 pound Jordon Gump, and 6-foot-2, 190 pound end, Gibson Barnard, overwhelmed Braxton's smaller team. With eight sacks, the Cougars totaled negative 57 yards against the Eagles, which held them to minus - 10 yards.

"We'd been waiting all summer to get out there and show what we're capable of "Ellis said. "They beat us in our opener last year so we were looking for some redemption."

The Cougars scored two points when the Eagles had a center snap sail over their punter's head and through the end zone in the second quarter at the 4:13 mark. The Eagles got on board when Aidan Watson took a reverse pitch out from Cotrill , and threw a pass that Toyton Stout was able to get around a Lincoln defender for the 12-yard touchdown play before the intermission.

Colton Hovermale led Lincoln's rushers with 88 yards on 12 caries, rambled 43 yards on the second half to move Cougars to a three touchdown lead.

Impressed, Coach Hawkins said "We thought our defense had potential, but you never know when you put kids out there who haven't done it under the lights on Friday nights," He continued, "But I thought our line was dommatring, our linebackers Hunter Moore and Hovermale tackled well, and that our secondary, except for a couple of plays, played well," he ended.
