RCB Hands Lincoln Their First Loss of the Season


While RCB evened its record at 1-1, they dropped LHS to the same mark.

For Lincoln, Kobie Carpenter completed 13-of-26 passes for 185 yards, which included two touchdowns, one rushing and one passing, and also threw two interceptions and lost a fumble. Sophomore, Colten Hovermale, ran 58 yards for the Cougars, who also created 13 penalties to lose after only being out-gained by 4 yards on offense. The first quarter was eventful, but scoreless.

The Eagles started their first hit at the Lincoln 31 after the kickoff return by by Tre Junkins. Lincoln pushed for their first drive on a 14-yard rush on a fake punt by Kobie Carpenter and drove Robert C. Byrd only four before fumbling, with Kade Tenney recovering for the Eagles. In the beginning of the second quarter, RCB started in the red zone thanks to Davidson, who ran 15 on on fourth-and-2 and Junkins who ran a two yard run five plays later with a TD. The extra point was blocked by Lincoln, but left leaving RCB with six, Lincoln 0, with a little under ten minutes left in the in the half.

Lincoln started pushing back when Carpenter hit Leep and Fazalare for the garns of 13 and 16; then, off a bad snap, Carpenter tucked and ran for for 26-yard touchdown. Steven Anton's extra point put Lincoln in front, 7-6. Not for long, though. When Davidson scored from five yards out, RCB led, 12-7. Davidson ran the next plays. RCB had another short field after a bad snap which forced Carpenter to scramble and be tackled at his own 26 yard line. The Eagles advanced to Lincoln's three before a sack ended the half. Lincoln started the ending half with Hovermale rushing for the first two downs. At the Eagles 34, Carpenter flew 16 yards to maintain the drove. Two plays later, he hit Haymond for the 20-yard touchdowns; the run for two failed. Lincoln then got 65 yards on the Eagles to have another conversion from Carpenter to set up for Hunter Moore's first yard push that pulled the Cougars back 26-19.

"We had the chance to make a couple plays defensively and we didn't make them," Hawkins said. Davidson covered the ball after an interception by Elder which put them at 58-19. Lincoln moved to the red zone as they turned the ball over on downs at RCB's 9. Davidson, unforunately for the Cougars, made some remarkable plays, which assisted in Lopez's first TD of his career that put the Eagles with the score they dominated with, 45-19.
