Recently, our Lincoln boys soccer team tried their hardest against Buckhannon Upshur High School's soccer team.
Our boys took a brutal beating when, in only the 20th minute, the Bucs scored when in their first goal. Joel Prats- Casada had a penalty kick after a Lincoln defender touched the ball inside the five. Prats- Casada got the point that got their team ahead of Lincoln. Lincoln's Freshman Jared Nelson then shot after a goal came towards him. Two minutes later, Zach Ward extended the first half.
The Bucs were leading 3-0 when the second half was starting. The Bucs were controlling the game with a lead of three. The Bucs then made two more goals against Lincoln with. Gaining a hat trick gave them a 5-0 lead.
Mike Donato, BU's coach, changed some strategies to slow the game down, but it didn't slow the game done any bit. Ryan Hurst, a freshman forward, scored off of a well-kicked through ball from Lane Tenney in the 74th minute. Four minutes later, Bryer Ketttermon scored, which then gave Buckhannon a 7-0 lead.
Concluding the game, our tired Cougars worked their hardest to beat this tough team. Mike Donato spoke his thoughts on winning the game. "I thought that maybe we were a little nervous to start conference play. We didin't play our style, I think we got a little bit fancy and a little careless" Donato said about the performance. Overall Buchannon Upshur used team work and hard work to beat Lincoln; but with some more practice, Lincoln won't be beat again.
