After a rough start on Saturday, Lincoln's girls soccer team shot six goals in the final 40 minutes to throw off the visitors from Nicholas County.
This earned the Cougars their biggest win of the season, bumping them up one, 2-3.
The Cougars and the Grizzlies were tied up to 0-0 at the half. Lincoln kept an 8-1 shot advantage. The half time speech from Lincoln's coach David Sturm must have done its job, because Lincoln started dominating in less than two minutes into the second half. Freshman, Victoria Sturm, intercepted a goal kick and advanced up the field to gain a one-on-one opportunity with Nicholas County's goalkeeper. Sturm took the advantage and zoomed the ball past Christine Messer for the first point of the game. Nearly two minutes after, Sturm hit the spotlight again when she broke through the Grizzlies' defense and zipped her second goal into the opposing team's net. Then down 2-0, Nicholas responded with a few solid plays that created an opening for a couple scoring opportunities, but the Cougars stayed strong,
"It was a close game again, but we were able hold them off." Said Coach David Sturm. Lincoln earned a corner kick in the 52nd minute. Brenna Riley found Hailey Collins in front of the net to extend the Cougars' lead to 3-0. Alaina Bott finally got a good look in just a few short minutes after an hour and set it in the net. Just five minutes later, she used her speed to her advantage and got another goal to make the score 6-0. Junior Kinley Cummings had a soild game, earring a shutout and blocked all six shoots she faced. On the opposing end, Messer stopped 17 of 23 shots for the Grizzlies.
