Several Lincoln Students Participated in the United Way Boat Race

It was time again for the United Way's annual boat race; and like the past years, many Lincoln students were in attendance.

The students from Mrs.Hostutler's class formed groups and then built boats from cardboard boxes and duck tape. They had to be careful to follow all rules to ensure their boats would be eligible to use in the race.

Some students won the race they were in. Overall, all the Lincoln students did well. It's fun for anyone who takes part in it. To build a boat out of cardboard and duck tape and then make it float across the river with you in it doesn't sound so easy. It had to take a lot of teamwork and the students had to think through their strategies.

We may not have won 1st every time, but Lincoln High did very well. They made Lincoln proud with all the hard work they put in with the racing. One team consisted of Payden Laulis and Lilly Rhoads. Another team consisted of David Akers, Jonathan Leep, and William Lemley. Ashley Tate raced a boat made by Payton Moore and Shane Reynolds. Steven Anton also raced his own boat that he named "Castaway" and actually took 2nd place in the high school division.

Lincoln didn't just have students racing. Our school also had students helping the staff who made it possible to have the boat race.

Since Liberty was the high school team to beat us, Mrs. Hostutler asked for a rematch. Liberty agreed. The students in her club will be building a boat to race again and she is also building a boat to race against the Liberty teacher. This rematch should happen sometime in the spring, but the details have not yet been confirmed yet. That race with be at the same place - Maple Lake - where the original race was held.
