Welcome, Mr. Decker

Lincoln High School has seen quite a lot of staff changes this school year. On a positive note, we welcomed Mr. Decker into our Lincoln Cougar family in April.

Following Mr. Lopez's new job as assistant superintendent, Mr. McKeen then moved up to be our head principal. That left us one assistant principal short. Mr. David Decker, who isn't exactly new to the school nor the community, got the job.

So in order to get to know Mr. Decker a little better, the newspaper staff asked him some questions and wanted to share our results with our readers.

David Decker is a 2002 graduate of Lincoln High School. From there, he attended Fairmont State University to earn a BA, and West Virginia University to earn his masters.

Before landing his new job here at Lincoln, Mr. Decker was a teacher at Lumberport Elementary, Lumberport Middle, and Big Elm Elementary. He began his administration role at Nutter Fort Intermediate where he was the assistant principal, and then most recently worked as the principal at Salem Elementary.

As stated, Mr. Decker came from Salem Elementary where he was their principal. He decided to make the switch a high school assistant principal because he saw it as an opportunity to work with high school students. He said he wanted to be involved in preparing students of this age for their learning and life after graduation. Although he has only been with us for a few weeks, Mr. Decker said his favorite part about his new job is that he gets to help high school students reach their potential by utilizing their gifts and talents.

Mr. Decker especially hopes to help the students, staff, and community grow and maximize to all of their fullest potentials.

Just like many high school students today, Mr. Decker had an inspiration that led him where he is today. He credits coach, John Wooden's pyramid of success for keeping him focused on the right things and leading him in the right direction.

Another goal Mr. Decker has on his mind has to do with morning. He wants the arrival of students to be energetic and exciting. He views each day as a new opportunity that requires a commitment of positive energy to grow, so he would love to see that in all the students who enter the doors of Lincoln each morning.
