This year, Lincoln High is offering a new program called Mind, Body, Spirit in place of Focus. Different from Focus groups that just focused on academics, this new program was created to help students in new areas including mental, physical and spiritual health, as well as test scores. Test scores aren't the only thing driving LHS, and the administration recognized this and created a program that would benefit the entirety of each student.
All Lincoln students will participate in Mind, Body, and Spirit on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays each week. Students were placed randomly within groups and will move to the different classes and different teachers.
One day a week, students will concentrate on their Minds. This day is designated to work on mental health and assist students in training their brains to prepare for testing. They will work on Khan Academy, with SAT material, and other work that will prep them for test taking.
The days focused on Body, students will have the option of playing basketball, hitting a volleyball, walk around the gymnasium, or exercise their body in some way. The body day is meant for students to take a little break from learning and studying so they can return to class feeling refreshed.
The final day is centered around the students' Spirits. These teachers will focus on character building and personal goals. The Spirit day is designed to develop the best person you can be and create the best students Lincoln High can have.
Lincoln’s staff hopes these days will encourage students to strive for greatness and help their bodies to be the healthiest versions they can be to achieve the highest test scores possible.
The administration hopes to shape the staff and students into their best selves and create a positive working environment for all.
Mind, Body, Spirit days will begin the week of August 27.
