This year’s DECA-FBLA club is holding multiple fundraisers throughout the year, so be sure to look for them throughout to help support the busy clubs.
To start the year off, we talked to Lincoln High School’s own FBLA President, Skye Bunnell, to get straight to the point.
“This year’s DECA-FBLA club is holding more fundraisers than ever before. The crazy thing about it is that the money the students collect goes into their own account, which means that the money they raise will not go to anybody but them,” Skye reported.
She said that this year’s fundraisers will include their own vending machine, roses, candy bar sales, spirit beads, popcorn, face painting, raffles, decorative plaques, and many more.
“Our very first fundraiser this year is our Sarris Candy Bar sale,” Skye told us. “This is where most of our money came from last year, so we’re pretty excited to kick off this year with that particular fundraiser.”
As of right now, she isn’t sure what the next fundraiser will be, but she is sure that it will bring in a lot of money and the students will be happy to participate.
The DECA-FBLA vending machine is located in the business wing, right next to the snack and water machines. In this machine, they will be selling anything ranging from cell phone chargers to snacks. Although this sale hasn’t started just yet, Skye said it should be up and running within the next few weeks.
The spirit beads and face painting fundraisers will take place this fall, as the beads will be sold at school during both lunches and football games. The only football game they will be doing face painting at is the Homecoming Game, which is still undecided.
“A couple fundraisers we did to stay on our toes were raffles. Two examples are our Fall gift basket that we did in September/October and the Justice Gift Basket that we did in December. As far as I know, we will be having a few more raffles again this year,” Skye said.
The last fundraiser she knows the exact dates for is the rose sale. This sale is usually held from February to May. The reason it is held for so long is because they sell the roses for Valentine’s Day and any holiday leading up to Mother’s Day. Generally, the roses are 1 for $1, 6 for $5, and 12 for $10. “This year, we hope to be getting some new colors in, but we aren’t sure at the moment,” Skye told us.
Although the students of the FBLA-DECA club have some pretty good fundraisers, whose dates are already decided on, to get through the year, they still have some dates that need decided. For example, Skye isn’t sure when they will be selling popcorn or their decorative plaques. “There will be a lot more fundraisers to look forward to as the year continues, as well.”
Skye left us with this quote by Helen Keller, “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.”
FBLA/DECA are led by teachers and advisors Julie Yearego and Jaclyn Loss.
