Two teams trying to climb into the upper division of Big 10 Conference volleyball standings met at Lincoln High School on Tuesday when Lewis County visited the Cougars.
While neither team could take over as much as they wanted to against the other, the Minutemaids benefitted from the play of senior hitter Seanna Stump late in the fifth set to come up with a 16-14 win in the deciding set after the two squads split the first four.
Ali Rockwell’s kill gave the lead back to the Cougars at 13-12, but Stump came up with a kill to tie it and a block to give LCHS a 14-13 lead.
The Cougars, now 2-2 on the season, took the first and fourth sets, 25-21 and 25-7, while the Minutemaids, who moved to 3-0 took the second and third sets by 25-14 and 25-22 counts.
