Lincoln High School came to be by the consolidation of the former Shinnston High School located in downtown Shinnston and Lumberport High School located in the town of Lumberport.
Both buildings are still standing but are vacant.
The name Lincoln came from one of the first public schools in Harrison County which was located a half a mile away in the town of Gypsy.
The construction of the school began in the spring of 1975 with the clearing of 2 ½ acres of land located on Rt. 19 across from cemetery. The ground breaking was in 1976 and the building was constructed in 1977 and the doors opened in the fall of 1978.
The colors for the school are brown and vegas gold and the cougar was chosen for the mascot
