When Lewis County blew out to a 12-1 lead in the first 4:05 of its game with visiting Lincoln, Minutemen coach Charles Simms was hopeful his team’s shooting woes were behind them. But the Cougars were able to stop the turnover bug that helped lead to the early Lewis advantage, and finally found some offense late in the quarter, which helped them go on an 18-0 run to claim a 20-14 lead at the break. As that run showed, Lewis’ shooting woes were still in full gear, scoring just two in the second, four in the third and six in the fourth, as the Cougars went on to a 46-24 victory Thursday night at the Lewis County gym. “Thought once we started getting back on defense, our defense kind of took control of the game and it helped lead to some good offense for us, too,” Coach Jordan Toth said. “We started taking better care of the ball, too, and we got some run outs in transition too which got us going a little bit.” The Cougars continued their onslaught into the second quarter, with reserve guard Brayden White’s 3 from the left corner starting a 12-0 run in the quarter, and his trey from the right of the key capping it with 2:05 left before the intermission, making it 19-12. LC’s Shawn Moran broke the scoring drought, which covered 11:18 of play with a step-back jumper before Zach Snyder hit 1-of-2 free throws for the Cougars for the 20-14 score at the half. Ryan Leep paced Lincoln with a game-high 14 points and eight rebounds. Vance, a lanky 6-7 center, came off the bench to add seven points, eight rebounds and four blocked shots, while White chipped in with six points. Hawkins added five points and five rebounds and Kellar contributed four points and five rebounds. Snyder had a solid floor game with five rebounds and five assists.
