2009 State Baseball Championship Honoring!


On Saturday night during the senior night game, Lincoln High School honored the 2009 AA State Champions baseball team.

The team celebrated their 10th anniversary of their championship.

Starting the road to championships began with a sectional game against Liberty, whom they easily beat. The second game was close, but the Cougars ended that game with a loss. The final resulted in a needed win by one run, sending the team to Regionals.

The team easily beat Braxton County 6-1, then won against Berkeley Springs 2-0. These wins advanced them to the state semi finals, where the Cougars beat Independence 6-5, which can be highlighted by Dale Martin’s two run homer in and Josh Harlow’s pitching.

Making their way to the finals, the Cougars were up against the Big Blacks of Point Pleasant for four innings, both teams had 0 runs. Then, in the fifth inning, Justin Bartlett leaped over the catcher which started a six run inning. In the end, Kenny Healey only gave up two runs.

At that moment, the Lincoln Cougars won the 2009 State Baseball Championship. The team consisted of: Manager(s) James Howard Tichenor, and Karlin Flagle; Coaches: John DeMarco, Mark Starkey and Mike Rogers; and players, Josh Harlow, Cody Winter, Justin Stier, Justin Vance, Jacob Harmer, Dale Martin, Justin Bartlett, Kenny Healey, Jared Crowl, Nathan Kissella, Zach Benson, Evan Powell, Beni Riddle, Cody Rogers, Jimmy Glaspell, and Matt Payton.
