The girls and boys tennis teams took a trip to Charleston for the State tournament over the weekend. On Thursday, Allison Rockwell took down Devon Besedich from North Marion in the first round 8-1. Justin Vance defeated East Fairmont 8-4. Rockwell played again and lost 8-0 to St. Joes Audrey Heaberlin who finished as the 1 seed State Runner-up for the third year in a row. Justin Vance fell to Nitro 8-4 in a close match, but heat exhaustion held him back. Nitros 2 seed ended up claiming the State Title. At 1 doubles, Rockwell and McDonald downed Keysers duo 8-4 and moved on to play first thing Friday morning. Friday morning was rained out and the girls played indoors at the local YMCA at 8am. After a slow start they started to get back into the game, but Logan pulled away at the end to win in a close one, 8-5. Unfortunately, all players lost in the quarterfinals and that was an end to the Lincoln 2019 tennis season. The future is bright for Lincoln tennis and they hope for another showing at the State tournament next season.
